36th Street Garden Plaza—Garden Center & Bistro – LEED Silver

This LEED Silver building includes a 9,000sf retail space adjacent to a 3,000sf bistro. The building is efficiently heated with geothermal radiant floor heating. The central rotunda is wrapped with operable windows for natural ventilation which are part of the 3-stage natural cooling system. Recycled and regional materials were incorporated into the materials and finishes of the building.

At the urban scale, this mixed-use project on the corner of 36th Street and Hill Road creates a pedestrian-oriented environment through a design strategy that combines residential, retail and office components at various intensities. It is the “mix” of these components that activates the neighborhood and creates a vibrant urban design. The project transitions from retail/office to live/work to town home/master down to the adjacent neighborhood—from larger, more intense use to smaller, less intense use.

This project was completed in spring 2007 and awarded LEED Silver certification.
